Without the grid. Retaining our Basic Utilities.

Whenever we talk about the US power grid crashing many immediately assume that we’re breaking out our tin-foil hats to broadcast another fox newscast. However, bringing it back to reality a little when we talk about instances like what we witnessed on the East Coast with a pipeline that got shut down by electronic terrorists and essentially left the consumers in the dark. Although in that case, it was another utility, the underlying principles are the potentially the same. So the question is how do we, as individuals function if our local power grid were to go offline. With the modern world running at almost 100% of some form of electricity, we are left to wonder what exactly would happen to society, to our communities, and most importantly our friends and family.

Survival instincts vs. real strategies

The need for survival methods. Events in our lives that we’ll need survival tactics to continue our lives. Whenever we talk about Survival, it’s when it’s a major event, or we’ve heading off to the woods for a long weekend. We bring up the subject when there’s a huge natural disaster and we are left without power without our resources without food those types of things. However, all too often we failed to remember that it’s the little things or the smaller events that will get us in the end. With this in mind, I’d like to open up our discussions this week and talk about survival verses real strategy for getting through an event safely, and healthy. There are those amongst the Survival genre, who feel that constant practice is the only key to success, more like muscle memory for the activities necessary to survive a natural disaster. But, that’s not always a necessity. With some proper planning, and immediate access to critical resources necessary, you can actually provide a stepped plan for your way through a natural disaster into a quick recovery with documented cheat-sheets. These cheat-sheets must contain clear, precise steps to take, starting from worst-case scenario all the way through to recovery.

Conspiracy theories. Training for the worst.

Whenever discussing conspiracies, one must be cognizant of the kernel of belief that there is in the underlying principles. Notice I didn’t say kernel of truth, I said belief. I say this because there are some folks across the land who are convinced of the validity of these claims, therefore are hoarding resources to that end. However for the rest of us, we should consider, if only briefly, the possibility of their concept coming to fruition. While we have no obligation to subscribe to their theories, we might want to consider the modification of our preps to ensure we could handle the fallout from their conspiracy coming to reality.

Outlaw Thoughts. How I imagine the end of civilization will happen.

Let’s talk about what a “doomsday theory“ is. When considering what we need to be prepared for, thinking about the end of the world as we know it should always be in the back of our mind. How do we go on after society has imploded? Considering all the items that we have in our lives will be gone, or impossible to replace. Our lives will be completely different, but yet we’ll retain the knowledge that we had them, and what they did. So, contrary to those who say that humankind will be thrust back to the Stone Age, the knowledge of the developed technology will be retained, thereby allowing crude replicas to be created. This then provides a stark contrast to going back into time, before there was an understanding of these conveniences. So, while we talk about the loss of current conveniences, some of these Doomsday theories are survivable. So, with all that said, let’s talk about a couple more possibilities other than our intro today.

Welcome to Season Two of Alaska Outlaw

Tonight is the long awaited introduction to our second season here at the Alaska Outlaw podcast. Throughout the last year we’ve covered many different topics, and found several themes that emerged throughout the year. A year of informative podcasts to look back upon, I want to look at these threads and hopefully shed some more light on those themes. First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank each of you for following us, and hope that our second year will be just as fun, and educational as the first one was. The key that has hopefully been underscored throughout the many shows is that each of us have the power to get and stay safe and secure. We know that survival is a 90% mental exercise, and 10% conscious action steps. As we witnessed the many dynamic events unfold before our eyes, creating carnage and terror in our everyday lives throughout last, and the early part of this year, we know that our knowledge and skills will be called upon to get us out safe. Armed with knowledge of the proper steps, we can make our opportunity for success that much more possible.
